gathered many policymakers from EU institutions and stakeholders interested in the role of foresight in the process towards the definition and launch of the 9th Framework Program for Research and Innovation of the European Union.
The discussion was opened by Patrizia Toia, Member of Parliament and Vice President of ITRE Committee, and Massimo Inguscio, President of the National Research Council of Italy. Following the presentation of the European Parliament (STOA) and the European Commission (DG Research) foresight initiatives, Ezio Andreta, coordinator of CNR S&T Foresight, described how the CNR approach can be strategically relevant in identifying solutions able to face the societal challenges of the future while contributing to national and european policymaking activities.
At the end of the round table “Foresight to support solutions", Carlos Moedas, Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation, closed the meeting with his inspiring remarks: "We must understand that future is already today and that the best way to be in charge of our future is to shape it. For this reason, a cultural and linguistic evolution is needed, creating both the conditions to make people aware of what the “ foresight" is and to involve them in the process of research science and innovation development”.
