CHEMISTRY FOR LIFE SCIENCES

Chemistry and Materials for Health and Life Sciences
Development of new methodologies for prevention, diagnosis and innovative therapies (or both: theranostics) for precision medicine, also aimed at improving the quality of life (nutraceuticals). New therapeutic agents will be obtained through pharmaceutical chemistry, molecular/structural biology and structural/combinatorial chemistry (including models and computational methodologies) as well as screening of molecular libraries or identification of natural compounds and application of the "omics" technologies for molecular profiling. The therapeutic approach will include the use of new multifunctional biomaterials for tissue regeneration and repair as well as more targeted and site-specific drug delivery. The diagnosis of high-impact social diseases will be based on the development of bio-molecular materials and systems (analytical and bio-sensors micro-systems, molecular imaging) for better classification of specific patient subgroups.
